Sally Wang

Sally Wang was born in Taipei, Taiwan and was raised in San Marino, California, having gone to art school before becoming a creative professional.  She trained as an assistant to Francesca Tolot, beginning with a Calvin Klein runway show for AIDS Project Los Angeles in 1995, developing her skill working exclusively with Tolot for years on many of the most famous faces.

Sally invoked a wide palette of aesthetic influences when she made her transition to being a key makeup artist herself. Celebrity clients – including Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Jada Pinkett-Smith – have all relied on her to bring out their natural beauty for red carpet events around the world.  She has created looks that artfully balance elegance and contemporary edge for such photographers as Matthew Rolston, Ellen Von Unwerth and Cliff Watts.

Based in Los Angeles, yet regularly traveling internationally, Sally’s combination of innovation and reliability stems from more than a decade of experience.  She takes an individual approach to each client, tailoring each look to the nuances of their specific personalities.

With a background and education in fashion, Sally brings a couture quality to her artistic sense, heightened by stints living and working in Paris and the French Riviera.  Her red carpet and live event appearances demonstrate her ability to create superior results in important situations where retakes and Photoshop aren’t an option.  She brings professionalism and high gloss grace to major brand advertising campaigns including Fila, Flip and Asahi.

“My inspirations come from art and the creative expression I find in other cultures,” she explains. “Traveling and reading widely have given me a diverse and interesting perspective to incorporate when I create a look.  I also get ideas from seeing people in everyday situations who take ownership of their individuality by trying something a little different.  Beauty is everywhere and I am so happy to bring it out in the course of doing what I love to do.”
